Do I need to bring anything?
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, consider a case to protect them while you are floating. If you have longer hair, bring a brush and/or comb. We provide everything else for you: robes, towels, earplugs, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, blow dryers, curling irons, etc.
Should I bring my swimsuit?
Nope. Just your birthday suit.
Can more than one person float in a tank at one time?
Sorry. It's just you. You'll have enough to deal with.
What if I'm claustrophobic?
You are floating in your tank and in your private room. You are in control. You control the lights on the dimmer switches. You get to step out of the float tank anytime you want to. You decide if you want to leave the tank door closed or open. Besides, once you settle into your float, you will actually feel more like you are floating in outer space than being confined in a small space.
What if I fall asleep while I am floating? Could I drown!?
Never heard of it. That salt water is so hyper-bouyant, you can't help but stay afloat.
Can I float if I just dyed my hair?
What happens to your newly dyed hair when you shower at home? Is the water clear? If not, you should probably wait before you float. Even if your shower water is clear of any dye, all that salt in the float tank might still have an effect on some hair dyes.
Can I float if I'm pregnant?
Floating could really help you. Pregnancy often comes with lots of aches, and many pregnant women have reported welcome relief. Think of it this way: being in a float tank will give you some empathy for what it feels like to be in a womb.
Can I float if I'm menstruating?
Yes. It's no different than if you were to go to a swimming pool.
What if I get salt water in my ears and I can't get it out.
We will give you ear plugs prior to your float. But if you don't want to use them, or if salt water accidentally gets in your ears, we have the solution for you. In every room we provide a solution of half white vinegar and half water. Just rinse out your ears with fresh water first, then squirt this solution in each ear one or two times. That should do it.
How do you clean the float tanks?
We filter our water through an extensive filtration system with at least 3 full filtration cycles between each float session, and often more. The water passes through a hair catch, a micron sediment filter and a sterilization ultraviolet light. Remember that the tank water is saturated with 900 lbs of Epsom Salts. Those salts are a natural disinfectant. Then, we also add a measured amount of hydrogen peroxide as a further disinfectant, to keep in full accordance with the Waterloo Region of Public Health's code.
Won't I get dehydrated from soaking in the tank for 90 minutes?
Nope, you won't wrinkle at all.
Is floating for real? Why haven't I heard of it before?
Yes, floating is for real. Floating has been around for more than 40 years, and in some places like Sweden it's very popular. Right now, there are around 500 float centres around the world, and they are finally mushrooming here in Canada and United States. All of us are searching for ways to alleviate the stress that is overwhelming us. There's lots of published research and public testimonials on floating's many, many benefits, especially in helping us de-stress. We've included some of the research on floating on our website. Take a look. We'll keep you updated as more research gets published.
Are there any times I should not float?
There are probably many times and occasions people should not float, but here are three:
- If you have epilepsy that is not under any medical control;
- If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs; and
- If you have had tattoo work within the last 2-4 weeks, and maybe you should wait for 6 weeks if your tattoo is really colourful.
